Boris Johnson Gifts Uhuru Toy Car for Successfully Hosting WCR 2021 Series in Kenya

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented President Uhuru Kenyatta with a model car from the East African Safari Rally in 1962.


Johnson handed Uhuru a small car in recognition of Uhuru’s efforts to host the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally in June 2021. Reports indicate that the prime minister gave Uhuru the model car after the meeting; the car itself was driven by Wisdom-Riley Ann and her colleague Moss-Carlsson Pat of Great Britain and they finished third in a Kenyan-dominated meeting.

Trip to the UK

This comes just days after Uhuru completed a three-day trip to the United Kingdom. The head of state has signed several bilateral and multilateral agreements that are expected to improve the country’s economic situation. During the visit, Uhuru invited UK investors to open up business opportunities in Kenya, saying the country was one of the most attractive in Africa. On Thursday, July 29, Kenya and the UK signed two key agreements in the health sector, on the third day of Uhuru’s official visit to Europe.

Jobs for Kenyan nurses

As part of a new scheme between Kenya and the United Kingdom (UK), Kenyan nurses and unemployed health workers will be able to work in the UK. Qualified but unemployed health professionals are eligible to participate in the program. More than 5,000 health workers in Kenya are unemployed.

Apart from Johnson, Uhuru has held several meetings with other world leaders on the sidelines of the Global Education Summit held in London.

WRC Safari Rally

The WRC Safari Rally started on Thursday, June 24, and ended on Sunday, June 27. World champion Sebastien Ogier won the Kenya World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally which came to Kenya 19 years later. Sebastien won the race after night leader Thierry Neuville was forced to retire while damaging his suspension from Hyundai.
